Dorothy is a Managing Director of Prospect
Venture Partners. Prior to joining Prospect, she was Senior Vice
President, Project and Vaccine Integration, Merck Research
Laboratories, Merck & Company, Inc.
Dorothy became head of MRL Project Planning & Management in
1992. For the next nine years, she oversaw the integration of
R&D project development activities, for both vaccines and small
molecules, across the Laboratories. In addition to this
responsibility, beginning in 1996, she worked intensively with
the Vaccine R&D groups to integrate vaccine development
activities. From 1999 to 2001 she was also head of MRL Vaccine
Development.
Dorothy joined Merck in 1987 as an Assistant Director in
Clinical Pharmacology. During these early years, she was
responsible for the clinical development of leukotriene
antagonists — studies that provided the clinical proof of
concept for the subsequent development of Singulair. For this
work she received an MRL Divisional Scientific Award in 1998. In
addition, she led the team that designed & implemented the
advanced AIDS program during the development of Crixivan, one of
the first HIV protease inhibitors that revolutionized the
treatment of HIV infection.
Prior to joining Merck, Dorothy received an M.D. from Hopkins
University where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and has a
B.S. from Harvard University where she graduated summa cum
laude. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary
Medicine and is an author of many scientific publications and
two patents. In addition to her work with Prospect Venture
Partners, Dorothy is currently a lecturer in the Department of
Physiology and Biophysics, Mount Sinai School of Medicine;
founder of Synergee LLC, a private biotechnology consulting
firm; and a member of the Defense Science Board Smallpox Vaccine
Task Force.
